People are strange when you're a stranger.

Being dependent on public transportation to get from point A to point B is definitely a change for us coming from a two car household in Oklahoma City. Although most of the time it is rather uneventful, we have had a few interesting experiences on our treks.

Here are our top 10:

10. Listening to the conversations of all the different groups of kids on their way from and to school. It is ALWAYS good for a laugh.

9. Watching a guy transport his dishwasher on the bus. Wow.

8. Riding the bus home at 1:30 a.m. after celebrating into the New Year. There were some older couples on our bus that had apparently had quite the party...

7. Listening to an older lady (I'm not sure where she was from) argue with the guy who checks tickets. "In my country, we don't have to buy tickets." Ummmm.... riiiighhhht.

6. Joel missing a train that only comes every hour because he was standing on the wrong side of the tracks... when it was several degrees below freezing... AND snowing. In his defense, he was really, really tired.

5. A guy sitting across from Joel and whose facial expressions varied from extreme fear (think shaking and wide eyes) to rage (balled fists, clenched jaw) and back cyclically for the 5 min. we were in the bus with him.

4. Kendra running to catch the bus, completely biting it (in the mud) with a backpack and two bags full of groceries while the entire bus watched (no worries, the bus driver kindly waited for me to recover and get on the bus).

3. A middle-aged woman dumping her boyfriend (?) primarily because he doesn't give her enough money and she has found someone new (he was crying). However, she also took the time to explain to him each and everyone of his flaws. It was humiliating to say the least.

2. Carrying a Christmas tree on the bus and almost dropping it on a baby stroller.

1. Drunk old man in the middle of the day who was not only trying to give toys to small children but also gave the whole tram a harmonica and recorder concert. No matter how much I try to describe this scene, I will be unable to do it justice. We were all just very confused.

diversity of thought.

“It is the mark of an educated mind to be able to entertain a thought without accepting it.

Aristotle

I have been thinking about updating our blog for quite a while now. Several times I have sat down, started to type and later simply deleted it. This is usually followed by a repetitive internal debate about whether or not my thoughts or observations are worth sharing with the world. Don't misunderstand, I have no delusions of grandeur regarding the amount of readers of our blog. I occasionally read what others have written and feel that perhaps my/our stories are not quite as exciting or eloquently written. Again, I have no delusions, they probably aren't. However, I have also (once again) come to the realization that speaking, hearing, reading... diverse thoughts contributes to understanding for each other.

Personally, I never cease to be amazed with people's stories and attribute my interest in reading blogs to my sociological curiosity rather than creepiness. :) This carries over to my love of people-watching, trying to figure out why people do what they do, and literature.

Anyway, here I am, jumping over my shadow a bit and hoping that 2011 will be a better year for blogging than the one before.

Peace.
